Transphobes, “cisgender", and gender stereotyping: a short rant

It’s incredibly common to be told that the definition of cisgender rests on gender stereotyping. It is then put that the stereotyping inherent in “cisgender" is a product of transgender gender identity ideology.

The reality is, trans people exist. We are literally here, we move through society having a distinct set of social experiences from being outside of the invisible border beyond which your degree of gender alienation is considered socially unacceptable and deserving punishment, and we are treated in material terms less favourably than our cisgender peers. You can define cisgender however you want, and yes, of course, the dividing line between trans and cis is a shifting one based on where society chooses to draw it (call that “stereotypes" if you wish) but because trans people exist, people who are not transgender exist and are an observable social majority, and they’re really not very hard to find.

It’s just pure sophistry to try and make the 98+% majority invisible and invulnerable to criticism. What are you afraid of? That the five to ten thousand trans activists in the UK are going to decide you’re "problematic" and somehow come to power and punish you in a country of 66 million? Transphobes keep acting like we’re disconnected and unhinged from material reality and then they pull these utter shenanigans intellectually to try to make trans people’s minoritised experiences inarticulable.

The fact that the cisgender population are the overwhelming majority not just in immediate numbers but even beyond proportion to the size of their population, forming literally 100% of the government in the country I am from, and the sex stereotype standard they set, to which trans people are cast as the “imitating" other is also why it’s completely reasonable to argue that cisgender people are the only root cause of sex stereotypes in society worth paying any attention to.

Trans people don’t reinforce gender stereotyping, we’re barely able to even keep up with it! The entire thing is cisgender supremacy from bottom to top and operates in the main against us.
